The curriculum

The main teaching language is German, and English and French are prominent from Grade 1 on. Core subjects (languages and mathematics) are often taught in smaller groups, giving teachers an opportunity to tailor material and provide suitable levels of challenge for individual students. Homework supervision is offered to all AvH students.

An enriched curriculum in the natural and social sciences beginning in Grade 5 brings new teachers and wider horizons. At the end of Grade 11, students graduate with a Quebec High School Diploma. All AvH graduates to date have been accepted by the CEGEP (Quebec’s junior college) of their choice, and most make the Dean’s Lists or Honour Rolls.

As of 2009/10, AvH students will also have the opportunity to complete Grade 12 and earn the German International Abitur.  This internationally recognized diploma enables students to apply to universities worldwide directly from high school.
